Well, what to say about this one.
I am a fan of sympathy- it's true. Caring is a wonderful thing. I'm glad that people care about this, that and the other. It's quite catty, however, when caring becomes what I call "attempted sympathy". Let me illustrate a voicemail that was recently left on my phone.
*said in a high pitched, almost queer voice*
"Hi, my name is Doctor Deveraux, and I am SOOO looking forward to meeting with you this week. We are sooo excited to work with you, and glad that we were able to be a part of your medical choices. We hope that your time here is pleasant, and that you enjoy every minute, as we know we will. Thanks, and have a WONDERFUL day, buh-bye"
Now, perhaps you had to hear this one, but allow me a moment to dissect.
IF you are excited to have me be a part of something, then please don't make it soo generic when you say it. Please don't pretend to care when you don't know me from Adam, and PLEASE!!!! PLEASE don't pretend that you are going to enjoy every minute, because I know for a fact that we are all going to want to kill each other at randome intervals.
That said, I believe that sympathy is a trait that needs no words, or verbage, but simple actions that show one cares. A phony voicemail.... That's not going to cut it. Nuff said.
